About the Project
To debut the highly anticipated collaboration between adidas Originals and designer Daniëlle Cathari during New York Fashion Week 2018, the presentation at the NYU Atrium was conceived as an immersive experience built on the theme of deconstruction and renewal. Working closely with Project, my role as Lighting Designer was crucial in defining the atmosphere within the venue’s stark, white-walled canvas.
Since the walls were white, the lighting strategy was paramount in treating these surfaces, controlling color temperature, and maintaining the soft, stylized mood required by the collection’s pastel palette. We utilized integrated asymmetrical linear washes and light strips to define the perimeter and architectural features of the set pieces, creating a dynamic scenic wrap that distinguished the “domestic” areas without permanent structural color. This technique transformed the blank white space into a dynamic, intimate environment. The final element involved focusing precise, soft spotlighting on the static models and the reconstructed sportswear. This ensured a high-quality visual experience for both industry guests and editorial photography.
